Puff Daddy, P Diddy, or Sean Combs? I don’t remember the exact details, but P Diddy renamed himself Swag for a week back in the early 2000’s. Kind of like Sean Puffy Combs, there are many names for promotional products. When I started in the industry, tchotchkes, trinkets, and trash was the expression often used. I always found the trash portion of that comment offensive, but there is often truth to it. Now I can confidently say; I try everything I sell and I try not to sell anything I wouldn’t use.
While the point of this is to finish showing new product from the PPAI show, don’t forget some of the oldies but goodies. A nicely branded adhesive pad, good quality pen, or a stainless tumbler might not be new, but they are practical and useful.
I’ve been hearing a lot about the Marie Kondo organization and decluttering method. While I have yet to read her book, I know the gist is to only keep things that bring you joy. If you want to find a good product that “sparks joy”, ask your sales rep what they love and use daily. We become very selective when we have the product at our disposal all day long.
